What is a language-based learning disability?

Language-based learning disabilities are problems with age-appropriate reading, spelling, and/or writing. This disorder is not about how smart a person is. Most people diagnosed with learning disabilities have average to superior intelligence.

The Whole Language Approach

After reading extensively about the whole language approach over the past three years, I have had difficulty sorting out a coherent definition. I am not alone. (Bergeron 1990) found that whole language had been described as an approach, a belief, a method, a philosophy, an orientation, a theory, a theoretical orientation, a program, a curriculum, a perspective on education, and an attitude of mind. She even found that even single authors often define whole language differently in different articles.
